In TomTom’s 2025 Traffic Index, drivers in Frankfurt lost 107 hours to rush-hour traffic, and drivers in Berlin and Leipzig 100 hours each; TomTom counts growing courier, express and parcel traffic and a rising number of roadworks among the causes. Thirty-five low-emission zones (Umweltzonen) are in force, among them Berlin, Munich, Cologne, Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Leipzig, and only vehicles with the green sticker may enter. DHL carries over 40% of parcels, according to the Bundesnetzagentur, followed by Amazon’s own network and DPD, GLS, Hermes and UPS, and nearly 20,000 parcel lockers let shoppers collect instead of waiting at home.
